Homework Tutorial
Homework can be a real challenge for students attending international schools. Why? Academic standards at many international schools are high and if a child encounters a stumbling block in one subject, he or she may have trouble catching up. Homework often requires the participation of an adult. This may be well beyond the scope of what the housekeeper or babysitter does while the parents are busy at work or with younger siblings. There is also the challenge of helping a child in the language that is not the parent's native tongue. Developing effective study habits is important but does not always come naturally. Homework Tutorial may be beneficial for many types of students. If a child needs the full attention of the tutor, a One-on-One Tutorial may be arranged. If a child simply needs some guidance but can do quite a lot on her/his own, Small Group Instructions (3:1 student-teacher ratio) is recommended. An assessment will be made after a trial lesson.
Language Tutorial
The Immersion program may not be the right program for everyone. Some children will have specific needs or objectives that should be addressed in small group instructions or one-one-one sessions. For example, some children may just start learning English as a second language. Another child might be a native speaker who wants to take reading or writing skills to the next level. A student may join Small Group Instructions with children with similar objectives or sign up for One-on-One Tutorial. As with all customized programs, a trial lesson is essential for students new to GKA. The main difference between the Homework Tutorial and the Language Tutorial is that GKA designs a customized curriculum in the Language Tutorial.
Study Hall
Study Hall is where students have a chance to do their homework without special guidance. Study Hall can take place during the 5:30-6:30 extension period or if there is extra time before or after a Wednesday activity or after a Friday special activity. Students can feel free to ask questions and use resources at GKA.
