Global Kids Care

This is Mika. The 1st grade and 5th grade students of Nishimachi International School (Michael is in the latter group) are collecting 1 yen coins (or any spare change) to raise money for the One-Yen-Can-Make-a-Difference-Campaign to help the victims of the tsunami. Dr. Akiko Ohnogi (a fellow alumnus of NIS and former counselor) is in Sri Lanka to provide help to traumatized children through play therapy. The kids of Global Kids Academy came back with bags of change to put in the milk carton that Michael used as a collection box. Special thanks to KU and KTs!

The children of Global Kids Academy have also written messages to the victims of the Tsumani. NR, a 5 year-old girl wrote "I wish I could give you all the money in my piggy bank". MTm, a first grade girl wrote ”わたしは、つなみがもうこないといいとおもいます。インドネシアでママのベストフレンドがしんでしまいました。おはかでおいのりをしてください。あとげんきになってください。I hope that there are no more tsunamis. I am praying for you." I believe international education should go beyond the study of languages and the true goal is to help children reach their potentials as global citizens. It is times like these that I feel that GKA is filling a larger purpose.
