Kyoketsuzome
During the thrid week of Session 1, Ogawa sensei had taught us how to do Kyoketsuzume. The children folded washi (Japanese paper) and dipped it into dyes. Everyone was very pleased with their individual designs.
Thanks to Ogawa sensei, we were able to do Kyoketsuzome, a type of Japanese dying method. After dissolving powdered dye with hot water, we dipped the washi, folded into a small triangle, into red, yellow, blue and green vegetable dye. The unfolded paper turned out with beautiful colors in many different patterns. Everyone was excited to unfold their dyed washi and were surprised by the vivid colors.
