Adventure through the Rain Forest

written by Nao
On August 3rd, we went on an adventurous field trip to Yume no Shima to explore the life in the rainforest. We visited the Tropical Greenhouse Dome. We were amazed at the various kinds of tropical plants collected from all over the world.

We walked through three sections of the greenhouse. Starting off with a pond full of lily pads as big as the children, we continued walking under a waterfall and found many plants and flowers that are found in moist areas. The second section was everyone’s favorite. There were colorful flowers followed by trees and plants growing familiar fruits, such as the banana, mango, and coconut. We were looking intently where and how the fruit was grown on each plant. We finished our adventure with the grand finale of huge leaves coming in different shapes and sizes.

During our adventure, many of us drew sketches of our favorite flower or plant. We were able to see a small exhibition of insect-eating plants and a collections of the king beetle, the kabutomushi. After our very satisfying adventure, we had a nice picnic outside under a big tree.
