The trip started off with a 3 hour car ride from GKA. As we got to Hakkakuso, we were greeted by David Green and his friend, Yoshie. We all introduced each other, and took our bags inside. We had a hot dog lunch with chips and fresh Guacamole. Yummy! After our very filling lunch, we headed out to the beach. With their Chiba booklet in one hand, they set out for a scavenger hunt. They looked for things such as shells, seaweed, and other natural objects. Everyone enjoyed chasing the waves, and waves chasing them. Although they got wet, they were too busy having fun. They climbed big rocks and enjoyed the beautiful horizon. Everyone brought back interesting shells and corals. When we arrived back to Hakkakuso, everyone took a nice hot bath, and played games until dinner was ready. The feast began with an introduction from Mr. Green, of a buffet with roast turkey, mashed potatoes, home-made gravy, casserole, cranberry, and butter rolls. Many went up for seconds, and some for thirds! After our big dinner, we played Chinese whispers and charades. Although it was too cold to have a campfire, we enjoyed ourselves with active games. We had pumpkin pie with ice cream for desert! We washed up for bed, and as the lights were off, the children were fast asleep.

The following morning, the children were up by 6 o’clock, ready for a new day of adventure. After our pancake breakfast, we packed our things and said good-bye to Mr. Green. First we set out for the botanical Garden called Nambo Paradise. We found many tropical birds such as parrots and toucans, and other animals such as emus and monkeys. There were big green houses with tropical plants, and a big playground the children seemed to enjoy the most. Next, we were off to the Shirahama beach, where the children found more shells and enjoyed the waves. Our last visit was to the lighthouse. We climbed up a long spiral staircase, and at the top, we were amazed at the wonderful view. By the time we got back down, we were hungry. So we set out for ramen. After a nice bowl of hot ramen, we were ready to go home. On the way back, the children showed no sign of fatigue, and they were talking all the way back. When we got back to GKA, we made smores and started writing a journal as we waited for our pick-up. Everyone was eager to tell their family about their sleepover trip in Chiba. This trip is sure to become an unforgettable experience.

館山への旅

館山への泊まりがけの遠足はとても充実した２日間になりました。東京では見られない、広くてきれいな海岸でたくさんの思い出を作りました。この遠足を通してアメリカの伝統的なサンクスギビングディナーを味わい、新しいお友達を作り、自然を堪能することができました。

GKAから３時間、八角荘についてお出迎えをしてくれたのがデビッド・グリーンさんと彼のお友達のヨシエさんでした。一人一人自己紹介をした後、中に案内されました。お昼ご飯はホットドッグ。お腹いっぱいになった子供たちが最初に訪れたのは近くの海岸でした。色んな貝殻や海藻を見つけたり、岩を登ったり、波と追いかけっこをしたり、子供たちは大忙し。びしょびしょになっても遊びに夢中でした。良い天気にも恵まれ、海がとてもきれいでした。八角荘に戻ったころには日が沈み、お風呂が用意されてました。温かいお風呂で体を温めた後、ゲームで遊びながら夕食を待ちました。ブッフェスタイルで用意されたごちそうには、七面鳥、マッシュポテト、グレイビーソース、クランベリー、などが並べられ、グリーンさんの説明を聞きました。お腹が空いていたのか、みんなとても静かに食べていました。おかわりをする子もたくさんいました。お腹が満たされた後にはグループで伝言ゲームや、ジェスチャーゲームで盛り上がりました。残念ながらキャンプファイヤーはできませんでしたが、とても充実した一日でした。

次の日も子供たちの目覚めはよく、６時には全員起きてました。グリーンさん自慢のホットケーキを食べ、少しゲームを遊んだあと、荷物をまとめ、グリーンさんにお別れをし、八角荘を出発しました。最初に向かった先は南房パラダイスでした。そこにはたくさんの植物、花、鳥、動物と触れ合うことができました。新しい発見や動物との触れ合いでこの楽園を満喫した後、白浜の海岸に行きました。ここでもたくさんの貝殻を見つけたり、波と遊んだりしました。最後に訪れたのは白浜の灯台でした。長い階段を登り、見えたのは寛大な海の景色。下におりた頃にはお腹がペコペコ。近くのレストランに入り、温かいラーメンでお腹を満たし、東京に帰る用意をしました。帰りの車の中でも子供たちは疲れ一つ見せませんでした。GKAに戻って、キャンプファイヤーで食べるはずのスモアーを食べ、お迎えを待ちました。この充実した２日間は子供たちにとって忘れられない経験となったことでしょう。
