New Japanese Classes
I am very pleased to announce that we will add more Japanese immersion classes and private lessons starting November.
We are very fortunate to have two highly experienced Japanese teachers, Eri Ogawa and Reiko Sakata.
Ogawa Sensei has over 25 years of teaching experience. When we first met, she was a teacher and I was a student at Nishimachi International School. Since then, she has lived in Paris and New York, spreading her enthusiasm for Japanese language and culture. While teaching at Japan Society in New York, Ogawa Sensei taught Wall Street investment bankers and law firm partners as well as a Broadway star who needed to learn Japanese for his lead role in a show. Ogawa Sensei loves working with children of all ages and all levels (from beginners to native speakers working on writing skills). Ogawa Sensei is also an accomplished artist. Over the years, she has developed her own curriculum along with beautifully illustrated materials and often holds one-day workshops with specific goals such as mastering hiragana. Ogawa Sensei headed our Japanese program this summer and introduced children to cultural activities such as Kyoketsuzome and Calligraphy.
Sakata Sensei is a fun teacher who has learned several languages as a child, having lived in Malaysia and Argentina. She studied languages and linguistics at Sophia University and has received an M.A. from Waseda University in teaching Japanese to children. She has worked with numerous elementary school children in Tokyo, Gunma prefecture and Argentina. She understands the challenges faced by returnees and foreign children who are suddenly placed in Japanese schools and helps them navigate through the system. She has published papers on the issue of bilingualism. Sakata Sensei has a lovely hands-on approach and our students have enjoyed pursuing their favorite themes and projects.
If you are interested in any Japanese class (for children/adults, for beginners to native speaker focusing on a target area), please do not hesitate to contact me.
