The Fall Term started off with excited children, all eager to share their summer experiences. We had started off with discussing what each child did during the summer, and created a book called “Our Summer”. With the change of season, we focused on Fall. We created colorful leaves to decorate our classroom with warm colors. We read books on quilts and teddy bears. With the Japanese “Otsukimi” in mind, we created posters of outer space. The boys were especially enthusiastic about the planets. We found out about our constellations using our birthdays. Some children wrote a letter to Mr. Noguchi, the Japanese Astronaut who had returned to Japan after his recent mission.

秋期が始まり、夏休みの楽しい思い出を英語で一生懸命説明している子どもたちがたくさんいました。そこで、夏休みの思い出がたくさんつまった本を作りました。一人一人がどこへ行き、何をしたかを英語で書き、楽しさが伝わる絵も添えました。涼しくなるにつれて、秋をテーマにして授業を進めていきました。赤や黄色、茶色の枯れ葉を作り、クラスルームに飾りました。とても秋らしい雰囲気の中でアメリカでおなじみのテディーベアーやキルトをとりあげ、楽しい工作などでお勉強をしました。又、日本でおなじみのお月見を元に宇宙のテーマをとりあげました。太陽、地球、月のポスターを作り、男の子たちは惑星にとても興味を持ち、学ぼうとする姿勢がよく見受けられました。次に星座を学び、誕生日から星座を調べ、自分の星座の英語の名前を知ることができ、新しい発見にとても喜んでいました。何人かは最近宇宙に飛んだ野口さんに手紙も書きました。
