We had another great month at GKA. We started off with the Japanese tradition of Hinamatsuri. We sang the traditional song during circle time. The girls on Saturday made a picture of the Hinamatsuri with origami. Although it was a little early to think of the cherry blossoms, we entered in a writing contest for the Weekender magazine, with the theme of HANAMI. Many of the children wrote poems, some made collages, and drew beautiful pictures of the cherry blossoms. To go along with the theme of flowers and plants, we watched the video, “The Magic School Bus goes to Seed”, and studied the basic features of plants. We made beautiful lilies, and learned new vocabulary. We also focused on the St. Patrick’s Day theme, an Irish celebration. We started off by playing scavenger hunts and watching Arthur videos and completing worksheets. We studied about Ireland, learning new facts and completing maps. The children had fun learning about the leprechaun and his pot of gold and where it is hidden. We made creative crafts of pots of gold, and had treasure hunts. We read books on Irish folktale and made shamrock badges. We also picked up small themes on sharks and baseball. With the Japanese victory in the World Baseball Classics, we made a big poster with all the participating countries. Along with our fun-filled themes, we also continued with phonics using worksheets and hand made books. We had many crafts and creative activities in this month.

三月

GKAの三月はたくさんの工作やアクティビティーで盛り上がりました。日本の伝統的なお祭り、ひな祭りを勉強し、歌を歌ったりしました。女の子が多い土曜日のクラスはひな祭りの絵を折り紙で作って楽しみました。まだ寒さが残り、桜がまだ開花していなかったのですが、ウィークエンダーの雑誌のライティングコンテストに参加しました。「花見」をテーマにし、英語で花見について詩を書いたり、コラージュを作ったり、可愛い絵を書き上げました。花見にちなんで、植物や花の構造を勉強し、ビデオを観ました。新しい単語やすてきなユリの花を紙で作ったりしました。続いて、三月の代表的なお祭り、セント・パトリック・デーを取り上げました。アーサーのビデオを観て勉強し、セント・パトリック・デーが始まったアイルランドについても勉強しました。伝説の小人、レプレコンについても学び、彼が金貨の宝をどこに隠しているのかを話し合いました。可愛い工作を作ったり、ヒントを使って宝探しゲームをしたり、四葉のクローバーのバッジを作ったりしました。最後に、日本中を感動させたワールドベースボールクラシックをテーマに取り上げ、多いに盛り上がりました。大会の出場国をすべて書き、予選から決勝までを図にしてポスターにしました。このテーマは男の子だけでなく、女の子も楽しめたようです。楽しさあふれるテーマの中でも、引き続きフォニックスを向上するために、自作の本を作ったり、大人気のかるたをやったり、ワークシートをやりました。新しい文化や日本の話題をテーマに取り上げた月になりました。
