Session 1 field trip announcements

July 5
Global Kids Academy is a very lively place this week! School is out for just about all international school children so both English and Japanese immersion classes are full.

This week, the children are exploring the theme of Pixar animation. Children in English Immersion have been writing character webs and story plots. Some have invented entirely new characters, describing their features and even how they transform. I am always impressed by the children’s ability to express their creativity through writing and drawing!

Our field trip for the week will take place on Thursday, July 6. We will go to the Pixar exhibition at Mori Arts Center in Roppongi Hills. Children will get to see the concept drawings, sketches and storyboards from 20 years of animation since Pixar was established in 1986. Some of the children attended the Pixar animation workshop with us last summer where a famous animator showed us how to create animation. This week’s activity is a nice reprisal of the theme.

Another topic for this week was Independence Day for the United States. Yesterday, children learned briefly about the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence and the meaning of Stars and Stripes. Some completed reading comprehension exercises while others created and solved crossword puzzles and word searches based on Fourth of July-related words.

As a finale for this week, we will celebrate Tanabata on Friday. Both English and Japanese Immersion students will write their wishes on Tanzaku and try to reach the stars.
